The Du’aa Laylatul Qadr

The Du’aa Laylatul Qadr

Quoted from ‘Fiqhul Ad’iyah wal Adhkaar’ by Shaykh ‘AbdurRazzaaq al Badr p265-269

Indeed this night is worthy of a Muslim striving to seek it out to win its reward, reap its goodness, achieve its recompense and attain its blessing. The one who is prevented is the one prevented from its reward. Whoever passes by the seasons of goodness and days of virtue and blessings whilst he is continuing upon his sins, dependent upon his transgression, engrossed in his sins, surrounded by heedlessness, destroyed by his turning away, prevented by his errors. How great is his sorrow and severe his regret.
Whoever does not strive in profiting from this blessed night when will he strive? Whoever does not turn to Allaah in repentance at this noble time when will he repent?
Whoever continues to be negligent in doing good in it, when will there be a time to do good deeds?
Striving in seeking out this night and working to do acts of obedience in it, striving in du’aa are from the characteristics of the good people and signs of the pious. They turn to Allaah sincerely in this night asking Him to write for them forgiveness and pardon. Because it is the night in which is written what will be for a person for the whole year. So in this night they make du’aa and sincerely call on him and in their whole year they seriously strive and ask Allaah for help and success.
Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah and others have recorded from the Mother of the Believers ‘Aa’ishah رضي الله عنها that she said,
I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is your view if I know when the Night of Al-Qadr is, then what should I say in it?” He said: ‘Say: “O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.”
This blessed du’aa is great and deep in meaning, great in benefit and effect. It is totally suited to this night. It is as previously mentioned the night in which every wise command is made distinct and the deeds of the servants are decreed for a whole year until the next Laylatul Qadr (Night of Decree). So whoever in that night has been provided well-being العافية and his Lord has pardoned him he has become successful, won and gained the greatest profit. Whoever has been given well-being in this Life and the Next has indeed been given all of goodness and nothing is equal to well-being.

Explanation of the Name al 'Afuww by AbdurRazzaaq al Badr

Al ‘Afuww, al Ghafoor – The Forgiver/The Pardoner

Fiqh al Ad’iyah by Dr. AbdurRazzaaq al Badr p25 volume 3

Allaah the Exalted said,

That is so. And whoever has retaliated with the like of that which he was made to suffer, and then has again been wronged, Allah will surely help him. Verily! Allah indeed is Oft-Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving.
Hajj [22:60]

For these there is hope that Allah will forgive them, and Allah is Ever Oft Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving.
Nisaa [4:99]

Al ‘Afuww العفو The Pardoner. He is the One who wipes away bad deeds and overlooks sins. It has a similar meaning to al Ghafoor الغفور The Forgiver, but it is more far reaching than it.
Al Ghufraan (forgiveness) indicates ‘covering’
Al ‘Afuww (pardoning) indicates ‘wiping away’.
Wiping away is more extensive than covering. When both words are together (they have this separate meaning). However, when the word appears on its own then each of them carries the meaning of the other.

********
Allaah promises forgiveness and pardon to those who take the means as Allaah سبحانه said,

And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death).
Taha [20:82]

Allaah's names mentioned in du'aa before sleep

Allaah's names mentioned in du'aa before sleep

al Awwal, al Aakhir, al Baatin and adh Daahir as part of the du'aa:

Suhail reported that Abu Salih used to command us (in these words):
When any one of you intends to go to sleep, he should lie on the bed on his right side and then say:
" O Allah. the Lord of the Heavens and the Lord of the Earth and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord, and the Lord of evervthina, the Splitter of the grain of corn and the datestone (or fruit kernal), the Revealer of Torah and Injil (Bible) and Criterion (the Holy Qur'an), I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of every- thing Thou art to sieze by the forelock (Thou hast perfect control over it). O Allah, Thou art the First, there is naught before Thee, and Thou art the Last and there is naught after Thee, and Thou art Evident and there is nothing above Thee, and Thou art Innermost and there is nothing beyond Thee. Remove the burden of debt from us and relieve us from want."
Abu Salih used to narrate it from Abu Huraira who narrated it from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ).

Saheeh Muslim 2713a

Warding off Waswasah Doubts and Whisperings Suratul Hadeed 57:3

Allaah's Names:

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:

Abu Zumayl said: I asked Ibn Abbas, saying:

What is that I find in my breast?

He asked: What is it?

I replied: I swear by Allah, I cannot speak about it.

He asked me: Is it something doubtful? and he laughed.

He then said: No one could escape that, until Allah, the exalted, revealed:

"If thou went in doubt as to what we have revealed unto thee, and ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee."

He said: If you find something in your heart, say:

He is the first and the Last, the Evident and the Immanent, and He has full knowledge of all things.

Introduction and Benefits to Allaah's Beautiful Names

Download the document Click here

Introduction and Extracted Benefits from
‘Understanding Allaah’s Beautiful Names’[1]

Understanding Allaah’s Beautiful Names is a noble branch of knowledge. Rather it is the greatest fiqh. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever Allaah wants good for, he gives him understanding of the religion.”

Understanding Allaah’s Beautiful Names is the pillar of the journey to Allaah.
The foundation upon which the religion is built consists of belief in Allaah, the Glorified, and His Names and Attributes. Allaah the Exalted says,

Is it then he who laid the foundation of his building on piety to Allaah and His Good Pleasure better, or he who laid the foundation of his building on the brink of an undetermined precipice ready to crumble down, so that it crumbled to pieces with him into the Fire of Hell.
Surah at Tawbah [9:109]

Correcting the foundation and perfecting it is of utmost importance. The foundation is the strength for the body.

There are two foundations of the religion:

a.       Correct knowledge of Allaah, His Names and Attributes.
b.      Making obedience solely for Allaah and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and not anyone else.

There are many proofs in the Qur’aan to firmly establish this foundation.

Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) is the purpose for which Allaah created the creation:
1.       Tawheed al Ma’rifah wal ithbaat – Knowledge and Affirmation
2.       Tawheed al Iraadah wat Talab – Intentions and Actions

Allaah mentions His Names and Attributes in the Noble Qur’aan numerous times more than any other topic. It is the greatest, best and most lofty topic mentioned in the Qur’aan. See Suratul Ikhlaas, Suratul Faatihah and Aayatul Kursee.

The Virtues of Knowing Allaah’s Names and Attributes:

1.       The Call of the Prophets revolved around three matters:
a.       Knowing the Lord
b.      Knowing the Path
c.       Knowing the rewards and punishments
2.       Whoever has in his heart the smallest bit of life or love for his Lord and wishing to see His Face and longing to meet Him, his greatest aim, objective and motivation would be this topic of knowing Allaah and increasing in reflecting upon this topic.
3.       Sound hearts and souls at peace have more desire to know Allaah and are most happy in succeeding in knowing the truth.
4.       Happiness, reaching perfection and acquiring blessings revolves around knowing Allaah in this Life and the Next.
5.       The journey to Allaah is by way of Allaah’s Names and Attributes. Knowing them and learning them is an amazing matter. The one who knows them drinks happiness while he is on his bed.
Whoever loses this life, how can he spend his time and life with a covered heart. He leaves the world and has not tasted the best of what was in it.
His life is weakness and failure, his death is grief, his destination in the Hereafter is regret and sorrow.
O how I regret what I neglected in regards to Allaah. Alas my grief that I was undutiful to Allaah (I have not done what Allaah has ordered me to do).
Suratuz Zumar [39:56]

The Benefits of Knowing Allaah’s Names and Attributes

1.       It is the most noble of sciences.
2.       Knowing Allaah draws a person to love Allaah.
3.       It strengthens your faith.
4.       Allaah created the creation to know (and worship) Him.
5.       It is one of the 6 pillars of Faith
6.       Knowing Allaah is a profitable trade.
7.       Allaah loves it and loves to see the effects apparent on His creation. For example:
a.       Al Witr The One, He loves oneness
b.      Al Jameel The Beautiful – He loves beauty
c.       Al ‘Aleem The All-Knowing – He loves knowledge
d.      Al Jawaad The Most Generous – He loves generosity
e.      Al Qawwiyy The Strong – He loves strength
f.        Al Hayyiyy The One Possessing Honourable Shame – He loves modesty
g.       At Tawwaab The One who accepts Repentance again and again – He loves repentance
h.      Ash Shakoor The One most ready to appreciate and reward abundantly – He loves gratefulness
i.         Al Muhsin The Once whose actions are all perfect and good – He loves perfection
j.        Ar Raheem The Bestower of Mercy – He loves mercy

8.       Knowing Allaah’s Names and Attributes is:
a.       Protection from mistakes
b.      Protection from slipping and difficulties
c.       Opens the door of hope
d.      Helps you to have patience
e.      It distances you from lethargy and laziness
f.        An encouragement to do good deeds
g.       Discouraging a person from committing sins
h.      A solace in times of hardships
i.         A protection from shaytaan
j.        It fosters love
k.       It encourages generosity

The Pillars of Faith regarding the Beautiful Names of Allaah:
1.       Belief in the Name
2.       Belief in what the Name indicates
3.       Belief in what is connected to the name in terms of effects
